women helping women
I can’t change the fact that I was born into a middle-class family in San Francisco with opportunities to do anything that I wanted all around me. Just like someone born into extreme poverty in Bangladesh can’t help that she has very limited opportunities around her, so limited she can barely survive.
That’s why I invest 5% of all client fees into micro loans for women in developing countries.
Micro loans are small loans (could be as little as £50) that are given to a group of women wanting to start their own business to get themselves out of poverty. Unlike traditional loans where capital is needed to ensure repayment, the group of women act as their own capital, ensuring the group will pay back the loan together. And it works. The average microloan repayment rate is 96%. Compare that to the repayment rate of a traditional loan in the UK which comes in at a measly 50%.
You’ll receive regular updates on the women who received your micro loan and the incredible change they have made in their own lives with a little help from you.
If you want to learn more on the subject, Mohamad Yunis wrote an incredibly inspiring book Banker to the Poor that explains how micro loans came to be.
